The premiere of the contemporary dance performance Imagine took place on February 27 and 28, 2026, at the Student Cultural Center in Novi Sad, bringing together two evenings of dance, song, and collective imagination before a full house.

Created through twelve years of collaboration between choreographers Dragana Alfirević and Dejan Srhoj and their colleagues from the Pokretnica collective, Imagine marked the culmination of an evolving artistic exchange, one that began as an invitation to create a performance in Novi Sad and grew into a shared act of making. The piece set out to explore the materiality and corporeality of imagining the (im)possible, drawing inspiration from the Novi Sad neo-avant-garde and the spirits of artistic ancestors, in pursuit of the idea that the future may one day arrive again. On stage, contemporary dance and choreography became tools for a collective imagination of the unimaginable – resisting the predictable, embracing the open.

A co-production of SKCNS (Novi Sad), Kino Šiška (Ljubljana), Praktikabl (Novi Sad), and Nomad Dance Academy (Ljubljana), Imagine was created within the framework of the Moving Balkans project, co-funded by the European Union. The performance was also supported by the Provincial Secretariat for Education, Regulations, Administration and National Minorities, the Ministry of Culture of Slovenia, and the FUSION – Contemporary Forms of Art and Sociability project, developed in cooperation with the French Institute in Serbia and the Teatroskop program, with the financial support of the French Embassy in Serbia.
