RUNWAY is a solo performance on an unending treadmill, depicting a woman’s frantic race against the corrosion of time. This piece explores the tension between health and self-torture as the performer jogs in place, accompanied by composer Jan Van Angelopoulos and his electroacoustic soundscapes.
Inspired by catwalks, RUNWAY examines a woman's behaviors and transformations in response to shifting beauty standards. As she walks, runs, stumbles, and applies makeup, the treadmill becomes a stage for both silly walks and the struggle to maintain balance in a society that demands perfection.
This treadmill serves as both a tool for beauty and a metaphorical prison, critiquing the absurdity of modern beauty ideals. Ultimately, RUNWAY presents the treadmill as a conveyor belt for standardized products with expiration dates.
